Vets komen goed uit de startblokken

Rugbyclub The Vets ontmoetten afgelopen zondag op sportpark den Dries in Valkenswaard de maraboes uit Maastricht. Deze wedstrijd was de eerste in deze competitie en beloofde een ware test te worden. Ondanks het feit dat niet meer dan 12 spelers 2 of meer trainingen er op had zitten werd er toch vanaf de eerste minuut gevlamd. Een aantal spelers (lees Rik) had nog geen training in de benen zitten maar wist toch iedereen te overtuigen van zijn kwaliteiten. Ook het nieuwe tweetal in het team, Giel Bats en Wesley (zanger?!), liet zich positief zien aan het groots aanwezige thuispubliek.
Na het startsignaal waren het dan ook The Vets die vrijwel direct scoorden uit een prachtige pushover try door de voorwaartsen op naam van B. Bons. Na deze prachtige voorwaartse actie was het ijs gebroken en was het hek van de dam. De maraboes hadden hier niet echt een antwoord op, ze probeerden alles op alles te zetten maar strandden iedere keer in een goed opgestelde defensie van The Vets. Eerste helft 30-0.
Ook in de tweede helft was er vooral eenrichtingsverkeer richting de maraboes. De openingstry kwam op naam van K. Kuijpers na perfect aangeven en half-break van J.v.Traa. In deze helft kregen de maraboes een keer de ruimte en kwamen dicht in de buurt van De achterlijn van de Vets. Het harde werken van de maraboes werd beloond door een straf try veroorzaakt door The Vets. Hierdoor konden de maraboes zeven punten laten noteren. Na deze score gingen bij The Vets de ogen weer open en gingen onverninderd door met scoren. Eindstand 65-7

The vets leiden de competitie in de derde klasse zuid-oost.
Volgende week spelen The Vets in Eindhoven op de vijfkamplaan om 14:30 uur tegen de Elephants
